Last week, Port Nelson United held a very special 2 hour food drive in honour of Lisa Stewart who past away in august of last year at just 25 years of age. The youth group wanted to honour Lisa’s memory on her birthday, January 21, because she was such a big part of the leadership at Port Nelson United. And what a successful event it was! Robin is shown here with Jocelyn Burke who spent 10 years with Lisa in the youth group. Jocelyn mentions that Lisa was the energy there and that she put a smile on everyone’s face. She helped run community dinners, worked as a counsellor for the glee camp in the summer, worked in the nursery, and at the YMCA working as a lifeguard. No matter how old you were, Lisa had a very positive effect – Her event raised over $6,630 in donations and 1,345 lbs of baby and toddler items. Its obvious that Lisa touched everyone she met and has left her mark on everyone’s heart.

All who knew Lisa, were touched by her love and her light. She loved her dear friends from pre-school to college and from work settings (O.C.C., YMCA, camp). Since the age of 3, the YMCA has been her second home. She loved her Port Nelson Church family, her neighbours, casual acquaintances, fellow dog walkers, and of course her constant companion, her dog Angel.

From her parents first meeting with Lisa in an orphanage in Ukraine at the age of three, her generous spirit shone brightly. As new parents, we knew that this little blue-eyed blonde bundle of pure energy was certain to bless our lives. She has been an incredible blessing every day of our life together. As the years passed and her dreams grew, we were filled with joy that we were an integral part of her future plans. Those of you that had the opportunity to know her well, know that all-encompassing love was at the centre of her soul.
