Robin Bailey, Executive Director for the Burlington Food Bank has been involved in the food bank & security industry for 12 or 13 years now, first with the Salvation Army. What we’ve noticed over all this time is a pattern where at the 20th day of the month, coincidentally when the Canada Child Tax Benefit comes out, there is a significant drop in the number of families needing to use food assistance, such as a food bank. We saw this happen last week and we know the numbers will return to normal this week and we are ready to serve anyone in need of some help. This shows us that people only use us when they need to – when they receive the benefit, they go out and purchase groceries for the family and that’s a large portion of those who we are here to serve – those that are struggling with their day to day budgets. The January credit is a significant one because in December they get the credit earlier leaving a much longer gap between benefits.

Please let everyone know that we’re here for them right now, we have a snack program for your kids as they are studying virtually. Send us a note and we’ll work with you.

If you are in need or know of someone who could use our help PLEASE have them email us at info@burlingtonfoodbank.ca or call 905-637-2273 to make arrangements to have food dropped at their door or make arrangements to pick it up through our curb-side pickup option. If you live in Burlington, we are here to help. Don’t struggle – give us a call.
