Grow Food

Donate Fresh Garden Vegetables or Perishable Food

We couldn’t be happier with our own Horticulturist Lisa Dubik. She and her volunteer gardeners have produced the finest crop of fresh food we have ever seen at the Food Bank. We’ve also been lucky this year with community groups donating to us through Grow a Row (Burlington Together) and Grow to Give (Burlington Green). Below are a few tips for harvesting and delivering to us for distribution.

  • Make sure your harvested vegetables are fresh, clean, dry and labeled.
  • Garden grown vegetables can look different then commercially grown vegetables.  Labeling the vegetables help our recipients identify and incorporate fresh food into their meal plans.
  • Garden vegetables picked at perfect ripeness are full of nutrients and flavor. We can ensure high quality tasty food by harvesting vegetables in the early morning.

Here is a link to a great article about harvesting.

We would like to THANK the wonderful gardeners that took time to help Lisa this summer. She is always looking for people to help consistently with watering and weeding.

Please send us a note if you’re interested in helping with this. We are very excited to be able to provide fresh community-garden-grown food to our clients.

Help us feed the hungry in Burlington!
