Hey what’s with all the straw at that property near Brant St. and Ghent Avenue. Robin meets with Adria Cehovin about the exciting URBAN FARM here in downtown Burlington. There are 148 huge straw bales about 7ft x 3ft each. The plan is to grow vegetables and herbs right in the straw bales themselves for a two year period. All the start-up costs were managed by the Molinaro Group and community support is coming from many places. The goal is to produce fresh vegetables and herbs and to donate them to food charities in Burlington. They also plan to grow a pollinator garden to complete the cycle. Supporting the pollinators will help the tomato and cucumber plants get started. Support has been overwhelming for this volunteer group. Adria will post updates along the way on their facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/I.will.grow.for.change which we will also share. The group is looking for water barrels and food grade barrels if you are able to help.
