AUGUST 30, 2024
In Burlington, there are individuals and families who struggle daily to put food on the table. The impacts of food insecurity ripple through our neighbourhoods, affecting children, seniors, and individuals from all walks of life. It is a harsh reality that no one should have to face, and yet it persists.
The numbers we are seeing in Burlington and beyond are unprecedented:
Between 2019 and 2022, we saw the number of requests for our assistance increase by 94%.
In 2022 alone we saw the total number of visits from clients increase to 20,040.
So far in 2023, we have served 265 individual seniors, the same number of seniors that we saw in all of 2022. We expect this number to grow to around 500 or more by the end of the year.
This shocking change in food security is a reflection of the impacts of inflation and the lingering effects of COVID-19.
We firmly believe that by standing together, we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against hunger. The Burlington Food Bank, along with our dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and community partners, is committed to alleviating food insecurity in our local area. But we cannot do it alone. There are four ways you can help us address these challenges:
Your ongoing support and generosity have been instrumental in our ability to provide nourishing meals and essential resources to those in need. Your donations will help feed our neighbours, bringing comfort, hope, and a sense of security to individuals and families facing challenging circumstances.
We're In Need of Volunteers
Canstruction Burlington 2023 will be taking place from September 24 until October 1 at the Burlington Centre. As a Canstruction volunteer, you can play an integral role in bringing the event to life. If you would like to volunteer to fill a 2-hour shift, click the link below.
