Robin is with Shawna Stolte, our City Councillor for Ward 4 – they are in front of the Food Basics on Fairview which is one of the drop off points for the Share the Love city-wide food drive event. Shawna shares the concern that most people feel Burlington is mostly affluent while in fact there are pockets in Ward 4 that include families that are struggling right now. The community wants to help out by Sharing food to help with food insecurity.

There’s an old Tanzanian proverb that says “Little by little, a little becomes a lot.” and that’s no truer than with the Food Bank. Even if you can just share a box of cereal, its welcome and helpful and if 100 people do the same, then it has a major effect helping families in our community.

Shawna began her own food drive called the Friday Food Drive, now in its third week and she says she is very proud of Ward 4 for donating over 1,000 lbs of food already. Every Friday Shawna conducts her own drive through the Ward looking for anything apparent that may need attention.

With the stay at home order, many people do not have an option of visiting the food basics to drop off a donation, so Shawna asks residents to email ward4@burlington.ca and register their address for a Friday donation pick-up off your front porch and she picks them up along her Ward tour.
